Major Changes in Kuwaiti Culture and Economy during the Past 20 Years Research Paper

Major Changes in Kuwaiti Culture and Economy during the Past 20 Years - Research Paper Example A marketing technique that works in, say, North America, may not work on another continent, like Asia. Using the same marketing method may actually backfire and even cause harm to a product or service when used in a country with a different culture (TradePals). The following factors need to be considered in international marketing: International marketing research plays an important role in the identification and development of a company’s strategies for internationalization. It enables a business to identify, evaluate and compare potential foreign market opportunities and develop a marketing plan. Research also provides a company with foreign market intelligence to help it anticipate events, take appropriate action, and prepare for global changes. Kuwait is located between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and a short trip across the Persian Gulf from Iran. Kuwait was nominally part of the Ottoman Empire until 1899 when it fell under British protection. It remained a British protectorate until 1961, although Britain granted independence to Kuwait in 1914. Oil was discovered in 1938, and Kuwait is believed to have about 10 per cent of the worlds known oil reserves. With little arable land or natural fresh water with which to grow crops, petroleum dominates the Kuwaiti economy. Presently, Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy headed since 1977 by Amir Jabir al-Ahmad al-Jabir Al Sabah. Political parties are illegal in its 50-seat, popularly elected legislature, but several informal political groups — including Muslim groups — have put up candidates. Eighty-five per cent of Kuwaiti residents are Muslim, and only 45 per cent of the nation's residents are ethnic Kuwaitis. Others are mostly from elsewhere in the region. In August 1990, Iraq attacked and invaded Kuwait. Following several weeks of aerial bombardment, a UN-mandated coalition led by the United States began a ground assault in February 1991 that liberated  Kuwait.

Describe and discuss a number of major social marketing campaigns of Essay

Describe and discuss a number of major social marketing campaigns of your choice, with special reference to their strengths and weaknesses - Essay Example During 1970s social marketing started as a discipline for the first time. Kotler et al. argued that the similar marketing philosophy that was being used to sell products to customers can be used to "sell" behavioural attitudes and ideas. The dissimilarity is that, in commercial marketing the advantage goes to the marketers only, but in social marketing the entire society at large gets the benefit of behavioural changes. The implementation of marketing strategies in the field of politics is a comparatively new concept, argued, O’Shaughnessy (2002). Most of the political actors are not expert in marketing techniques. That is why the help of professional public realtor or marketers are taken. All the political parties need to get votes from public to win the electoral battle. So, a positive image and a favourable opinion have to be created in the mind of public. As it is also a mass opinion building process, the social marketing principle is used to do political marketing campaigns. Wilson and Gilligan (2005, p.189) state ‘The proliferation of Internet sites, for example, has enabled groups of consumers to publicize instantaneous and often highly critical reviews of new products, services or films that can be far more influential than the formal advertising campaigns. However, from the company’s point of view, improving technology and growing consumer sophistication also enable the m to become smarter. New advertising channels, such as Internet sites, video screens at supermarket checkouts and interactive television all enable suppliers to find more willing buyers. Companies are also becoming better at stimulating a street ‘buzz’ about their products by influencing select opinion formers, rather than by focusing largely upon mass advertising hype. Amongst those to have done this are companies such as Disney, Apple, Virgin, and Starbucks, all of which have caught the Zeitgeist and

Work and employment

Work and employment Work is the most important thing in life. From all the trouble, for all the ills you can find only one escape at work. Hemingway Life without work is not possible. People spend most of life time at work, position at work shows persons position in life, good career position shows persons achievements in life. Also work is persons identity: it means that profession and sphere of work influence person the most, it determines his knowledge, his view points and also a way to show who a person is. Work is something where people constantly discover themselves, their potential, their character and talants it is a mean of self-identification. It is necessary to point out the view of sociologist William Julius Wilson about the impact of employment on people: In the absence of regular employment, a person lacks not only a place in which to work and the receipt of regular income but also a coherent organization of the present that is a concrete system of expectations and goals.Regular employment provides the anchor for the spatial and temporal aspects of daily life.It determines where you are going to be and when you are going to be there. In the absence of regular employment, life, including family life, becomes less coherent.Persistent unemployment, and irregular employment hinder rational planning in daily life, a necessary condition of adaptation to an industrial economy. (Dubin, R 1998) The work a very important part of life, a working man gets colleagues, perhaps with friends, he has a sense of community with fellow workers, the purpose and schedule of the day, its status allows us to determine among others, gives a sense of dignity, a pride in personal achievements. Most every conversation with a previously unknown person begins with the words: In what area do you work?. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, published by the United Nations, the right to work is one of the most important rights of every person. However, this right is not always guaranteed. Job stability depends on many things starting with the state of the local economy and ending the situation in the world market.Nevertheless, when people lose their jobs or when they face this danger, the consequence are often protests, riots and strikes. What is a good job?Of course, everyone has their own opinion on this issue. For some good work is the use of advanced technology, freedom of ideas and participation in future projects. For someone a stable job, a good team and career prospects. Moreover, one of the key points of the company is to create better conditions for work, which correspond to the expectations of employees. The role of work in human and social development lies not only in creating the material and spiritual values, but that in the work man himself reveals his ability to acquire useful skills, complements and enriches the knowledge. The creative nature of work is reflected in the emergence of new ideas, advanced technologies, more sophisticated and high-performance tools, new products, materials, energy, which, in turn, lead to the development needs. While working people enter the social and labor relations, interacting with each other. Social relations allow to determine the social significance, role, place and social position of individuals and groups. It is important to point out the main reasons of importance of work. Economical reasons: work is a mean of earning for each person. Employment means a stable earning to person, his financial independence, and confidence in good and safe life. Nowadays employment gives also a lot of social guarantees and assurances, like medical insurance, paid vacation and so on. Employers often try to create better conditions for work of talented and skilled professionals, offers a high salary and a variety of incentive programs for employees.Employers are concerned about creating comfortable conditions for work, pay for lunch and sports activities for employees these are social and economic preferences of employed people.. Psychological reasons : work not only generates income but also contributes to psychological well-being.The work satisfies the desire to be a useful member of society and have meaning in life.In addition, from it to some extent depends on self-esteem.Therefore, someone who has more money than enough to meet their needs or who are eligible to retire, still prefers to work.Yes, work is so important that its absence usually entail serious social problems. The word work has always been associated with emotions. As a psychologist I. EB Duvoye said: Going back to work, you should be pleased by the work itself and from the fact that the world needs it. With these lives the heavens, and they are as close as you can to reach them. Without this with work that youhate, which is solid boredom, and which does not need the world your life hell. () Sociological reasons: social activity of the same importance for the maintenance of human health, as sports, diet or medication. Each person understand how important it is to be in a social group and identify themselves with any particular group. The study of British and Australian scientists published the London newspaper The Daily Express shows that active communication within different social groups and communities reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke and even influenza. Many diseases, first of all, are the psychological consequence of lack of positive communication rights. (Dubin, R 1998) When person is employed, he fulfills certain economic and social role in the society. Different people can fulfill different kinds of work, and it is important to note that all the professions and all workers are important for society. Also, work and employment are connected with the term social division of labor the process of separating different types of work between different members of society and social groups, the simultaneous coexistence and interaction of different types of work. So, being employed person gets a certain position in the society, he becomes of certain value and importance for society. On the professional basis people unite together in r groups, that is always people engaged in the same type of work.So when person chooses his working sphere and place, he becomes accepted into a certain group of people with their own ethical norms, rules, principles, values and lifestyles. Also, employment and work make people dependent on society and country, on economic and political situation in it. Employed person becomes dependent on countrys policy of employment, he begins to have certain rights and responsibilities. So, work and employment make people both dependent and independent, but anyway work is an integral part of human life. Works cited: Woodd M. 2000. The Battle of Crecy :: Essays Papers

The Battle of Crecy The Battle of Crecy is one of several battles fought during the Hundred Years War between England and France. William I was the first to intertwine England and France. He did this by separating his French and English holdings between his two oldest sons, Robert and William II. This led to intermarriage of French and English, which eventually created land disputes, dramatic affairs and inadvertently led to the Hundred Years war and the Battle of Crecy. The Battle of Crecy took place on August 26, 1346. The battle was waged by two kings, the English king, Edward III, the French king Philp VI and their respective armies. The French forces are thought to have consisted of around thirty-six thousand men, including thousands of Geonese from Italy. On the other side the English are suspected of only having around twelve thousand soldiers. Although the English were outnumbered by thousands of French knights they proceeded to savagely defeat the French that day. On the day of the battle the English were in a defensive position awaiting the attack of the French forces at a place known as Crecy Ridge. The English armies were "trained, disciplined, well-armed and confident" meanwhile the Frenchmen and Geonese were "largely untrained, hastily collected and lacking cohesion" (Burne 186). The English were also thought to have had a crude form of a cannon, the first ever used in a battle. They also had excellent archers who easily defeated many of the French cross bowmen and knights from a distance with a longbow. The English win was enormous, and it is said that "Phillip VI fled the battlefield" (Allmand 15). Jean Froissart helped to to sensationalize and romanticize the battle in his "Chronicles of the Hundred Years War". With this work he helped to create legends about the "Black Prince", Edward III's son who first gained honor through the Battle of Crecy. The work idolizes the warriors who fought in the battles and exaggerates the cowardice of the French.

Who is liable?

This situation is full of negligence .So let’s start from the very beginning.â€Å"Bobby and Rachel were playing basketball on the school playground with a brand new backboard and rim built and installed by ACE Sports†. So this new equipment was installed by ACE Sports and this is their fault that Bobby was injured. If an accident is caused by a defective product, the manufacturer and seller of the product are both liable even if the injured person doesn't know which one was careless in creating or allowing the defect, or exactly how the defect happened. Also they were playing at the school playground, so the school authorities should stick to the security rules, and check school equipments. As we can see Rachel was also a â€Å"good† example of negligence, she wasn’t aware of the first aid rules and this is the fault of the school. She even didn’t have any idea to take Bobby to the school First Aid Box .As it known   The Health and Safety (First A id) Regulations, 1981, placed a general duty on the University to make adequate First Aid provision for all employees should they be injured or become ill at work. Each School and/or building is therefore required to provide:  a number of properly stocked First Aid Boxes appropriate to the risks of accidents or injuries that could arise from school activities and to place these boxes in the care of an Appointed Person or qualified First Aider;  access to the services of one or more qualified First Aiders as appropriate to the work of the School (Area);   notices giving the names and locations of the qualified First Aiders, Appointed Persons and the locations of the First Aid Boxes. The increased risk of injuries in recent years has made us all the more sensitive of the need for clear communication with youth and parents or legal guardians, for appropriate supervision for all activities, and proper maintenance of our facilities to reduce the possibility of accidental injury. The term â€Å"risk management† is often used to describe efforts to minimize possible injuries to those who are in care.A teacher’s duty of care also relates to the quality of instruction or training provided to the students. Regulation 298 requires teachers to â€Å"be responsible for effective instruction, training and evaluation of the progress of pupils in the subjects assigned to the teacher.†Ineffective instruction and training can cause serious harm to students, especially to those participating in activities that have the potential to place them at risk. When planning courses and activities for students, educators should consider what needs to be done to reduce risks of liability. Teachers must make every effort to address such crucial issues as the degree of supervision required, the instruction and training needed to permit the students to function properly, and the condition of the equipment to be used. So Rachel had no experience at all in this aria. The next element of negligence: â€Å"When they arrived at City General hospital, Bobby was immediately seen by a nurse who gave a large towel to Bobby.   Nurse Williams told Bobby to put pressure on the cut while she tried to get a hold of his parents.† As we can see even the nurse didn’t provide right first aid. Instead of towel she should give special bandage:   â€Å"Individually Wrapped Triangular Bandages (preferably sterile): can be used as a pad to stop bleeding, as a sterile covering for large injuries such as burns, as a bandage, or to make a sling.† So we can judge her for the negligence because a person can be considered negligent whenever he or she had a duty to act carefully and failed to do so. She failed not only provide first aid but also she made him to wait, instead of giving him certain treatment.Unfortunately this hospital shows us that a great part of its staff failed in their duty: Dr. Andrews, a surgeon who was going to have a lunch and sent him to make an x-rate, then ten minutes later, Nurse Williams who told Bobby to go to the x-ray department, Johnny, the x-ray technologist who took some x-rays and sent Bobby back. So let’s turn to the STATE (TORT) LIABILITY LAW.There are three types of torts under state law, each with different levels of proof and focusing upon different elements of the injury or damage. Evidence rules, precedent, and judicial discretion play a role in determining what type of tort law will be applied.NEGLIGENCE — In this case, intent or mental state do not matter. What matters is whether some inadvertent act or failure to act created an unreasonable risk to another member of society. (Examples: speeding resulting in traffic accident; not responding to 911 call) Most states have three levels of negligence: (1) slight or mere (absence of foresight); (2) gross (reckless disregard) this is our case and (3) criminal. To be prosecuted under tort law for negligence usually requires at least level 2 since to be prosecuted for mere negligence requires considering foresee ability which would support charging the person with an intentional tort or not.Examples of gross negligence or accumulations of mere negligence constitute deliberate indifference.   This standard is usually satisfied by looking at whether or not the agency administration engaged in supervisory negligence. Virtually every decision a police administrator makes subjects them to possible liability. There are examples of supervisory negligence and our case relates to them:Failure to treat – also a liability of officers and jail manager; not providing first aid, ambulance service, or counselling (given the foresee ability of suicide); Negligent entrustment ;Negligent assignment ;Failure to direct ;Failure to discipline; Failure to investigate ;Failure to protect ;Negligent classification etc.Negligence, according to Sr. Mary Angela Shaughnessy, S.C.N., J.D., is the most common of all lawsuits f iled against educators. Negligence is an unintentional act or omission, which results in injury. Due to the fact that negligence is unintentional, a person charged with negligence is generally not going to face criminal charges but monetary charges (Shaughnessy, 1996, pp.8-9).So I also can state that we deal with not only simple, everyday negligence but with Legal negligence. Legal negligence must include four elements. If any of these elements is missing, legal negligence cannot be found. The four elements of negligence are:Duty †¢ Violation of duty †¢ Proximate cause †¢ InjuryOur case has all this elements. The person charged with negligence must have had a responsibility or a duty in the situation. Injuries that occur at a place or time where the person does not have responsibility does not constitute liability. Violation of duty means that the person charged with negligence was not engaged in the responsibility or duty. Accidents can happen even with proper supervi sion but there is no negligence if there is no violation of duty. And as we can see the violation of duty had a great deal in this case. Now I can state that I have entirely evaluated the potential liability (tort or otherwise) of the various parties in this case.SOURCES1.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Police Liability Concerning Human Rights2.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Kappeler, V. My story-writing to describe: The blade glistened in the moonlight, and the air chilled against my skin

The blade glistened in the moonlight, and the air chilled against my skin. It was time. Slash: the blade was now red, deep red. My second kill was a lot easier than the first, but it's not over. The body is starting to smell now, I guess I should leave, then I can tell you why I killed for the second time tonight, and the second time in my life. I'm back in my car I need to visit someone, I can smell the blood on my clothes, it's a dark night the air is heavy the moons gone now, only the broken street lamps to show me the way, but it will do, it will have to do. So now I'll explain what's going on and why I killed someone. I started the day like any other and went to work like normal, but when I got home, something was wrong, I couldn't hear my kids shouting and playing like they normally do, in fact I couldn't hear anything just a dead silence. Something was wrong. I could feel it in the air. I opened the door and instantly I knew something was wrong and nothing was how it should be. Lucas and Jake weren't shouting and playing as they normally are and my beautiful wife Brooke wasn't here to welcome me home. I walked carefully through the entrance hall into the living room and then I saw it something I'll never forget till the day I die, my wife and kids on the floor dead in a pool of blood, their faces so pure and honest, what's going on who could have done this, who would do this, which sick people would brutally murder unarmed children. I could hear something in the other room. I took out the baton that was in my pocket and followed the sound. I walked into another room and saw someone crawling on the floor. Covered with blood everywhere it was my neighbour Nathan badly wounded but definitely still alive. I walked towards him: he looked bad. Maybe I should have tried help him but I needed to know who had done this first. Before he died, he told me one name and an address. I gathered my things and covered my family I took each one to their bedrooms and laid them there, I then took a knife I had in my drawer and pocketed it. After finishing in my house I left and headed straight to the address I was given; 24 Ashten Park. I hadn't been to the road before so it took me some time to get there but in the end it wasn't too far away and I arrived at my location. That was three hours ago, it seems so long ago that I found the address and the name. When I found the name after beating it out of him he told me who had helped him and who had hired him in the murder so after dealing with him I left again with vengeance strong in my heart and straight away found his accomplice. I killed him too. That's my story so far now I'm on my way to my brother I wont be able to get revenge on my own, my target is too big, this is a two man job. When I killed the first murderer he told me who he worked for, a local guy known for his dodgy dealings, and he's my target but he's sure to have protection so I need to get help, here I am, number 1 the Valley home to my only brother. My brother, Jason is three years younger than me and similar to me in many ways. But unlike me he has no children or a wife, or I should say what I used to be like, now I have nothing. I can't believe this is happening to me I'm just a normal guy with a normal job with a normal family. We're driving towards vengeance I knew my brother would help me, as soon as I explained the situation he picked up a knife and was ready to go. While we're driving to our final destination I'm wondering why did all this happen? Why my family? Why me? Maybe ill find out why but really now all I want is revenge. We are nearly there I can feel my blood pumping in my veins, my heart beating so fast. My hands are trembling, shaking but I must get my act together you can't kill when you're shaking. We're finally here I can see the hangout. Time to go. I'm walking towards the building with my brother we're going to go behind the back we need to be silent so that no one hears us. I can smell the stench of these backstreets. It's disgusting. I can see the dirt and filth that lives, around here, but really it doesn't concern me. I only have one thing on my mind; revenge. I am at the door. I can hear noises inside. All I have to do is pick the lock with my knife and I'm in. There done it I'm going in, the room is quite dark and there is a thick must in the air. The sound I heard is from another room; this one is empty. It's an abandoned room with dirt and dust everywhere a torn up couch on the side and a bed in the corner, I dread to think what might have happened in here. Damn it, someone saw me and now his shouting and I can hear running footsteps and a door opening, but not to meet me there running outside I need to go after them. My car is fast I'm sure I can catch them I'm getting into my car and stepping on the gas, I never thought I'd ever be chasing a filthy thug to kill him but that's what I've come to. I'm a couple cars behind them but I can't think of a way to get them off the road. I need to get closer. They are so close I can see the guys in the car. There are two of them and both must be killed. Its time to do what must be done. Smash! I drove my car into theirs but they're not stopping. Smash! Again and again I drive my car into theirs and finally their car stops and two men get out, my brother and I get out of my car and take out our knives. They do the same. I realize this might be the last thing I ever do so I must succeed and I must kill them. ‘You killed my family. Now come here and suffer' ‘Do you know that your family screamed, begging for their lives, especially your youngest. Do you know why I killed them'? A large smile was on the thugs face as he spoke. ‘ Because I was in the mood for some fun.' He ran towards the thug blade out and aimed straight for the heart. The thug took his blade and tried to parry off his attack but it didn't work. The thug was on the floor, his blood pouring out onto the stone floor. He was surely dead. As this was happening, the thugs' friend had walked quietly towards the car and had pulled out a gun behind his back. He then jumped into his car, aimed his barrel, shot and then drove off. I never thought it would end like this well at least I got my revenge I'm now at peace ready to move on. Wow so this is what it feels like to take a bullet to the chest, not quiet what I imagined but painful enough. ‘No you cant die you're my only brother, I love you, breathe please breathe.' cried Jason, who now had him in his arms. But it was no use. He was dead. Now it was Jason's turn for vengeance. I know a number plate and that's good enough for me I will get vengeance for my brother. Now my story begins.
